If you require support in your running shoe then you can now experience the dynamic qualities of 100% boost™ technology in the Ultra Boost ST. Unlike other stability shoes, it supports with cushioning rather than a hard structure. This is achieved by being slightly more compressed on the medial side to offer you the extra support needed so the midsole is constructed completely from boost™ to give you the ultimate energy return. Because of the cushioning the Ultra Boost ST is more flexible and designed for a smooth transition and the visual indicator on the side is the only way of telling that this is a stability shoe. The primeknit upper offers your foot a sock-like fit for complete support as well as freedom of movement and has vent zones where required the most to give you maximum breathability and comfort. The seamless tongue adds to this comfortable fit and also helps it remain very lightweight and with 'seatbelt' stripes enveloping the midfoot for security. The continental outsole has more rubber than the neutral version to back up the support already in the shoe but the stretch web will still promote the natural expansion of the foot as you run.
- adidas Primeknit is carefully engineered to naturally expand with your foot while you run to give you a more comfortable fit and help reduce irritation
- boost™'s energy-returning properties keep every step charged with an endless supply of light, fast energy
- STRETCHWEB rubber outsole is lightweight and elastic, adapting to the ground for stability and working strategically to optimise the unique properties of boost™ from touchdown to push-off
- TORSION® SYSTEM for midfoot integrity; Ergonomic heel structure for added support
- Continental™ Rubber outsole for extraordinary grip in wet and dry conditions; Runner type: stable; Stack height: 32 mm / 24 mm (8 mm differential)
Stability shoes are designed for runners who overpronate, the majority of runners fall into this category. The initial impact will always be towards the outside of the foot. It then roll inwards to help absorb shock. As it rotates or pronates inwards, it continues beyond the neutral point usually due to having a low arch or flat feet. As the arch collapses, your foot then leans inwards, causing the rest of your lower body to be out of alignment. This can lead to pain in your ankles, shins, knees, hips and back.
The support in a Stability shoe is positioned underneath the arch on the medial side and is usually a harder, darker coloured foam compared to the rest of the midsole. This helps to offer resistance against your arch collapsing and therefore holding you in a better aligned, neutral position. Finding a shoe that supports you correctly is the tricky bit, we would always advise getting your gait properly tested, but if you would like more advice on how to self diagnose whether you need a stability shoe please visit our Gait Analysis page or send us a question.
