In 1970 Ron Hill was the first ever British man to win the Boston Marathon, striking gold at the Commonwealth Games as well as competing at two Olympic marathons, he completed 115 marathons throughout his running career.
In September 1970 Ron Hill set up the Ron Hill Sports company, which pioneered various products including wrap-over shorts, mesh vests, waterproof running jackets and reflective strips. It was actually the first company to develop high visibility clothing, of which the more current clothing lines are always stocked at the running outlet.
