Running Bottoms
Running bottoms come in many different styles and it is usually a matter of preference but is often influenced by the time of year.
In the winter it's common for both men and women to run in a pair of running tights. These cover the whole leg and not only keep the legs warm but are tight fitting which makes them streamline, reducing drag from the wind but also allowing excellent freedom of movement whilst offering support to the muscles. Women will also wear a 3/4 or Capri variation to this which makes them more of an all year round tight. It's also possible to get looser fitting bottoms like the Ronhill Men’s Vizion Windlite Running Pant if you don't like tight fitting bottoms.
In the summer the majority of runners will be out in shorts due to the hotter weather and these come in several styles. You can get the tight shorts like the adidas Women’s Supernova Short Tight:Black, which come down to just above the knee. Again these help to support the muscles but also offer great freedom of movement. Then you have the more orthodox looking shorts like the Ronhill Women’s Aspiration Flexlite Running Short as well as the classic racer split shorts like Dad used to wear like the Nike Men’s 2 Inch Tempo Split Running Short.
Compression bottoms are obviously tight to offer compression which aids circulation, increasing the amount of oxygen your muscles get. This enhances performance but also aids recovery. Skins and 2XU are the leading brands in the compression market and offer a range of long tights, short tights and 3/4 capri's. These are the best tights on the market.
All shorts and tights are designed to be as lightweight and unrestrictive as possible whilst also offering visibility usually through the use of reflective strips. The majority will also incorporate small pockets usually found either on the inside of the waistband or as a zip pocket at the back. This is so you can carry your house keys, energy gels or anything else you might need.
