GPS Watches

GPS watches are a great addition to any runner's training whether you just want to measure your progress or you want to keep track of your training for a marathon. Runner's always want to know how far they've run and with the use of a GPS watch you can see exactly how far you've gone where ever you decide to run. For runners there isn't a more accurate method of measuring distance than a GPS watch which is why they are an essential gadget for enthusiastic runners.

Global Position System watches track you through the use of satellites and so are able to provide you with an extremely accurate satellite map of your run as well as lots of other information. They are easy to use, you just press start and away you go. When you finish you simply press stop and it will log your run. During a run depending on the watch, you can have a number of data fields showing key information like distance travelled, total time, average pace, split and lap times or even calories. They can be changed before a run depending on what information you want to know.

After your sessions just plug them into your computer through a USB port. Then you can upload all the information of your run or previous runs to your personal account on a website or software that comes with the watch. This will allow you to see all of your runs in an easy to use calendar allowing you to keep track of all your training. When you look at each individual run this is when you can really analyse your performance and progress. Along with a map of your route you will be able to see information like total time, lap times, split times, average speed, elevation gained or lost as well as graphs correlating your speed to the elevation and even you heart rate if you have a heart rate monitor as well.

When deciding to buy a GPS watch, it's important you work out what information you want to know. Whether it's simply how far you've ran or if you want to know more indepth information including Heart Rate. All GPS watches will tell you how far you've run but its the added functions that make the watches different, make sure your not paying for extra features you're not interested in using.

It's also important to realise that GPS watches are a training device and most are not designed to be worn as a normal watch due to the battery life, so again work out what you want from your watch and choose accordingly.
