Blisters

Blisters can be a real problem for runners, some can be bad enough to stop you running for upto a week! The main cause of blisters is friction, so it's important to reduce as much friction as possible. This can be done in a number of ways:

Firstly make sure that you have a pair of running shoes that fit your feet properly offering enough length and width, but not too much, otherwise your feet will move about too easily leading to more friction. Secondly a good pair of socks can make a huge difference in helping to not only reduce friction but also keeping your feet dry by wicking away the sweat from your skin. When your feet are damp from sweat it increases the risk of getting blisters. Socks like the 1000 Mile Fusion sock are double layered which means the friction occurs between the two layers of sock rather than with your skin, the composition of the sock also makes them superb at wicking the sweat away from your skin. Ordinary cotton socks are a big NO!

If you are way beyond the point of prevention and already have some nasty blisters then you can try applying blister sticks or even Vaseline to the affected areas. Also plasters or even better, specially designed plasters from Compeed will help to reduce the pain.
